Ebonised fruitwood and brass-mounted siphon tube barometer
Circa 1700
A rare unsigned ebonised fruitwood and brass-mounted siphon tube barometer. The barrel-shaped cistern base has the brass adjustment knob in the base and a gilt-brass collet at the top joining it to the spiral section with a further brass collet which joins it to the tapering straight section that supports the barometer hood, which is surmounted by three finials. The flanking finials rotate to adjust the blued steel index fingers on the register scales.
The register scales are formed of two silvered brass plates with foliate engraving top and bottom and the following weather inscriptions:
