Outstanding set of six George II walnut dining chairs

Circa 1730
An exceedingly rare set of six George II solid walnut dining chairs on carved cabriole legs and of extremely rare design. Having asymmetrical carved scrolling motifs to the tops of the backs, mirrored on the central front seat rails.
The curved arched backs with well-shaped solid splats descending to axe-head shaped seats with carved knees to the cabriole front legs and swept back legs.
The design of these chairs, whilst loosely based on the popular styles of the early 18th century, incorporating the asymmetrical scrolls is exceedingly rare and possibly unique. It is very uncommon to find any sets of identical surviving chairs that are nearly three hundred years old.
